"Medusa" Felipe Cabrera (double bass, composition) Leonardo Monatana (piano) Lukmil Perez (drums) Judith Sánchez Ruiz (choreography, dance) The music of "Medusa" was born in Havana, during a 110-day lock-down when Felipe Cabrera found himself alone in the country that saw him grow up. Pillar of the great Cuban jazz school, the double bassist based in Paris has decided to turn his accidental return to his native country into art in times of pandemic. While Cuba was completely closing in on itself to absorb the global disruption, he composed five superb musical pieces, which he created for Banlieues Bleues with his faithful trio and a distinguished guest, also from Cuba, the choreographer and dancer Judith Sanchez Ruiz. Recorded at the Salle Jacques-Brel (Pantin) on March 19, 2021, as part of the 38th Banlieues Bleues festival, Directed by Guillaume Dero

Wagner's Jews (Wagner's Jews), Musical, History, Biography, USA, 2013
Wagner's Jews Richard Wagner was notoriously anti-Semitic, and his writings on Jews were later embraced by Hitler and the Nazis. But for years, many of Wagner's closest associates were Jews - young musicians who became personally devoted to him, and provided crucial help to his work and career. Why were they drawn to him? And how could Wagner even accept their embrace? These questions are at the heart of 'Wagner's Jews', the first film to focus on Wagner's complex personal relationships with Jews. Filmed on location in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, 'Wagner's Jews' reveals this remarkable story through archival sources, re-enactments, interviews, and performances of original musical works by Wagner's Jewish colleagues. Featuring Zubin Mehta and Leon Botstein among others, the film also explores the ongoing controversy over performing Wagner's music in Israel. The same questions asked in Wagner's time still resonate today: is it possible to separate the art from its creator? Can sublime music transcend prejudice and bigotry, and the weight of history? Directed by Hilan Warshaw 2013

Lucky Peterson, tribute to Jimmy Smith Lucky Peterson (organ, lyric) Nicolas Fomer (trumpet) Kekyn Crapp (guitar) Ahmad Compaoré (drums) Twelve years after the death of Jimmy Smith, Lucky Peterson, pays a tribute to the master of the Hammond organ." My father brought me up on blues before I could even walk, and I played the organ before having learnt to speak."Lucky Peterson, The precocious, classy little baby's bottle was thrown into music as soon as he was born.To this die-hard blues man, who is the guardian of the flame, he was able to add a well-chosen dose of groove. There is no doubt that it was a suitable way to honour Jimmy Smith, who was a reference in the realm of jazz soul and with whom he had exchanged in his youth. Finally this dive into history reminds us how much the hymns of the 1950's and 1960's remain incredibly sensual, enough to encourage the choir of a church to dance... Itzhak Perlman, Virtuoso Violinist (Itzhak Perlman, Virtuoso Violinist), Biography, United Kingdom, 1978
Directed By Cristopher Nupen Although he was still in his early thirties when this film was made, Itzhak Perlman's virtuosity was already something of a legend and he was soon to become one of the most popular figures on the international concert stage. This film played a major part in that success. His rare combination of astonishing technical virtuosity and lighthearted ebullience have since won him a particularly affectionate following, but he wears his success very easily and describes himself as basically a family man and his relationship with his family as the most important thing in his life. This film, which was shot over a period of three years, shows Itzhak Perlman at home in New York with his family, on tour in Europe with Pinchas Zukerman, playing Sarasate's "Zigeunerweisen" with the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, conducted by Lawrence Foster, in the recording studios with Vladimir Ashkenazy, recording Beethoven sonatas, playing Scott Joplin in Wuppertal with Bruno Canino, solo Bach at a BBC Lunchtime Concert in St John's, Smith Square, London, a Beethoven Trio with Vladimir Ashkenazy and Lynn Harrell in concert at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and rehearsing, performing and teaching at the Aspen Music School in Colorado, where he goes regularly with his entire family. This film is an intimate portrait of this entertaining and many-faceted artist and it includes music by Bazzini, Sarasate, Beethoven, Scott Joplin, Bach and Vivaldi with a number of performances shot on stage in true concert conditions, where the artist is at his best and most revealing.
