Teenager Frank Abnagale Jr is heartbroken when the father he idolises suffers money problems and Frank's mother leaves him. He decides to run away, and begins a career as a con artist, impersonating an airline pilot, doctor, and assistant attorney general, cashing millions of dollars in cheques - while being hunted by dogged investigator Carl Hanratty.
