Fran Fine, a fashionista and make-up saleswoman, shows up on the doorstep of the Sheffield family and becomes the nanny to Maggie, Brighton, and Grace, the children of British Broadway producer Maxwell Sheffield. The householf is managed by the acerbic butler Niles, who supports Fran, and often visited by Maxwell's business partner C.C. Babcock, who is determined to undermine her, as she sees Maxwell's attraction to Fran but is interested in him herself.
