Today, patients from Britain's most remote community - on Fair Isle, south of Shetland - wait for a weather window to make the trip for important operations. They include John, who is hoping to get the all-clear after surgery to find out whether cancer has been kept at bay. GP Esther Mitchell makes the trip the other way to see patients on Fair Isle. Poor weather had meant it has been eight weeks since she was able to keep her appointment. And a specialist surgeon travels to Shetland to carry out a complex operation on a Fair Isle resident, who is keeping her fingers crossed that fog lifts to get her home again afterwards.
